Josef Vanca - Two Canoeists
A figural group of two canoeists in a racing boat, cream-white glazed terracotta. Model no. 173, designed by Josef Vanca (1908-1988), a graduate of the Ceramics School Teplice and UMPRUM Prague, who worked as a designer at Epiag Karlovy Vary and, from 1945, as a ceramics educator in Ústí nad Labem. He designed over 68 models for JIHOKERA Bechyně, more with sporting subjects than any other designer at the factory. One piece, one new owner, then closed. ✦
