A bronze bust of Dante Alighieri, shown in his characteristic laurel wreath and medieval cap, mounted on an oval base inscribed "DANTE". Busts of Dante were a favourite decorative subject at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, a nod to classical literary taste that put poets on the same shelf as saints and statesmen. Finely modelled face with a rich dark brown and copper patina throughout, two mounting screws on the underside of the base, no maker's mark. One piece, one new owner, then closed. ✦
