A German-language prayer book inscribed to Marie Tauber, Aussig (Ustí nad Labem), Sudetenland, dated 1890. Books like this were rarely bought for a shelf; a name and a date on the flyleaf usually marks a gift, often for a First Communion or confirmation, then carried to church for a lifetime. Aussig was a German-speaking town in what is now northern Czech Republic, and Marie Tauber's book is a small, personal trace of a Sudeten German community that no longer exists there in that form.
